SnowTrail snow-covered at times - gear and expertise recommended
The weather has been very beautiful this week, and me and my good friend wanted to take advantage of the short window of left. Wanted to ring in the New Year with a good workout. Figured that MailBox peak would fit the bill with nearly 4K of elevation gain. Started at the trailhead around 6am, and hit the summit just after sunrise. The first 1/3 of the of the trail is snow free, and it gets icy near the top. When we met the juncture between the old trail and the new trail we were greeted with wonderful views of the Cascades, Seattle, and Bellevue. There was a super fast group of 3 guys that made us look like amateurs. We heard there was a group of nice ladies who were having a party at the summit so we high tailed to the top to see if we can crash their party (haha). They were already on their way down, but we were lucky to find a small bottle of wine, and a can of beer (Thanks for leaving that, because we really needed the calories as we had no food with us). After a brief time on the summit we made our way down to the car greeted by numerous groups of people. Near the bottom of the hike I was feeling weak and exhausted because I had not eaten since the night before (shame on me). A kind group of hikers lended be their Cliff Bar (thanks again!). This was a great hike, and an awesome work out for the beginning of 2015.
