Great late summer/early fall hike!! Arrived at the trailhead at 7:55am on Sunday morning and there were 4 other cars parked along the road next to the trailhead, we had no trouble parking. This hike starts out in a beautiful forest and slowly climbs up the ridge via switch backs. I am recovering from knee surgery 18 months ago and am not in the greatest shape, but was able to do this hike with no difficulty. We stopped about a dozen times on the way up for me to catch my breath and sip some water. We passed about 4 groups of hikers on the way up (no mask wearing at all in any group). Make sure to wear sunscreen- the last half of the hike is along exposed ridge, we had a lot of sun and it was lovely but also warm and a little intense at times. Reached the peak at right around 9:45am and as we crested the last corner we were met with a spectacular rainbow! There are a number of large rocks that you can sit on for a break- we had the whole peak to ourselves for the hour we sat at the top snacking and taking in the scenery. Go back the way you came to head back down, it’s not too steep and goes by quickly but obviously be mindful of the few rocks/obstacles and be gentle on your knees. We headed back down around 11am. We saw about 10 groups on the way down (no mask wearing in any of those groups either). We made it back down to the trailhead right at 12pm. This was a wonderful hike and we felt lucky that we had such great weather, views, and a peak all to ourselves. Must do if you’re in the Leavenworth area!
