What's New

Here are a few of the changes you will experience with our newly enhanced Trip Reports.

  • New Design - A new look and feel that reflects the design changes launched last fall.
  • New Search Features - Our search engine will now allow you to sort Trip Reports by date, search by keyword and more. All of the results show up chronologically with little photos and the ability to expand the text. Check it out today!
  • Trip Reports Go Live Immediately
  • Integration with the Hiking Guide - Our online Hiking Guide provides hiking descriptions and information for more than 2,000 hikes - and incorporates Trip Reports right on the same page!
  • More Photos - Trip Report posters can now upload four photos for each trip. Click on the pictures to view them at a larger size.
  • Regional Information - If a trail is in our Hiking Guide, a box will appear showing which region the hike is located in and links to the Hiking Guide description.
  • New Tags - We've added fun new tags that allow you to highlight trips with ripe berries, fall color, wildflowers and more.

Answers to Your Questions

Q. I just tried to post a Trip Report and discovered I have to Login. What's the deal?

A. Our new system requires a login. It just takes a few moments to sign up and offers some distinct advantages:  your trip reports will go live immediately; your "online handle" cannot be used by others; and you won't have to type the same user information in every time you post a Trip Report.

Q. I'm using the new Trip Report search but not getting many results. Why not?

A. Your most comprehensive search will be with one of the Basic search options: Hike Name, Region or Date. Some of the Advanced search options (Trail Highlights, Hike Type) use information that is newly collected on Trip Reports posted after September 10, 2008.

Q. But I'm not getting any search results. Help!

A. Here are a few ideas: check the spelling of your hike (for instance, it won't find Rainier if you type Ranier); simplify your hike name (eliminate lake or pass or creek from the title); choose a different region or leave that search field blank; stick with Basic search options or the keyword; remember to clear the last search when starting over.

Q. I loved the old Freshest Trip Report page. Where is it?

A. We still have a Freshest Trip Reports page that offers a quick look at the 100 most recent Trip Reports. Our Trip Report Search is also chronological, and allows you to restrict your search to certain regions, dates and keywords as well.

We welcome your feedback on our new Trip Reports, and are continually making changes and improvements based on the feedback we receive. Please email your comments to lace@wta.org.
