This well-maintained trail follows along the North Fork Walla Walla River. It gradually descends from the trailhead for about 7 miles. There is a short ascent for about 3 miles, as the trail pulls away from the river to meet up with the Table Springs/Bear Creek trail.

The North Fork Walla Walla River trail offers an abundance of water. Large trees provide shade for most of the hike, and all the flora and fauna that come with being near water. At about mile 7, the trail crosses a bridge over the North Fork and begins ascending to the top of the saddle that separates the North Fork from the South Fork. The trail climbs from 3000 feet to 4000 feet over the next 3 miles till it meets the Table Springs/Bear Creek trail at the top.
