The route to the top of Goat Island Mountain is not on true trail but is more of a scramble.

Hikers will walk through deep forest and shaded trail from the trailhead along Fryingpan Creek to the log crossing at Fryingpan Creek that heads up to Summerland. Then, continue along the upper reaches of Fryingpan Creek where at the head, the views of Little Tahoma and the flanks of Mount Rainier are unsurpassed.

The final stretch is a ridge scramble.

From the top of Goat Island Mountain it's a four volcano view (Rainier, Adams, Hood, Glacier Peak). Walking the ridge back to the gap before dropping down to the creek you are walking towards the mountain.
